01 · WHY WOULD I NEED A TEST?
Medicines don’t work the same for everyone
Up to 90% of common medicines only work well for 30–50% of the people who take them. Often, the reason is written in your genes.
Statins giving you muscle aches?
Around 1 in 3 people process some statins slowly, so the drug builds up and causes pain or fatigue. A different statin, or a different dose, may suit you better.
Cholesterol · Statins
Antidepressants not helping, or too many side effects?
Your genes affect how quickly your body clears many antidepressants. Too fast and they don’t work; too slow and side effects build up.
Anxiety · Depression
Had a stroke and taking Clopidogrel?
About 30% of people carry a variant that makes Clopidogrel less effective. NICE now recommends a genetic test before it is prescribed.
No needles, no clinic visit. Just 1 ml of saliva, collected at home. (Clinicians can also send an EDTA blood sample or take saliva in clinic.)

MEET OUR FOUNDER
Why a group of doctors started Mantara
Dr Mark Hudson-Peacock, Chairman and Medical Director, explains in two minutes how a PGx test works, who it helps most and how your GP uses the report.
Mantara was founded in 2020 by doctors who saw how often standard medicines cause side effects, repeat prescriptions and avoidable hospital admissions.
“I was taking statins but started experiencing muscle pain and fatigue. The test showed I’m a poor metaboliser of the statin I’d been prescribed. My doctor switched me to one that suits my genetic profile, and I manage my cholesterol without the horrible side effects.”

Pain relief · Post-surgery
“After surgery the usual painkillers weren’t helping much. The test found I’m a poor metaboliser of certain opioids, no wonder they weren’t working. My doctor switched me to something more suitable and the difference was huge.”
Mr B, Oxford

Antidepressants · Mental health
“I’d struggled with side effects from several antidepressants. The test identified that I metabolise some drugs too quickly and others too slowly. With that insight my doctor changed my medication and I finally feel more stable.”
Clinically actionable recommendations from the Dutch Pharmacogenetics Working Group (DPWG), the same protocol used in the UPGx study published in The Lancet, plus a rapid CYP2C19 pathway for patients on Clopidogrel.

It helps most if you take medicine for a long-term condition, have had side effects before, or want to know which medicines are likely to work for you. It does not cover every medicine, so your clinician can help you decide.
